Dead Space 4: The Pitch That Went Nowhere

The Creative Try for Dead Space 4

Esteemed creators Glen Schofield, Bret Robbins, and Christopher Stone recently revealed their attempt to resurrect Dead Space with a fourth installment. On the Dan Allen Gaming Podcast, Schofield candidly described how the trio pitched Dead Space 4 to Electronic Arts earlier this year.

A Polite Rejection from EA

Despite their enthusiasm, the response was underwhelming. EA gave a flat ‘no,’ indicating they were not currently interested in expanding the franchise any further. “We didn’t go too deep,” Schofield explained. The key creatives respected EA’s decision, acknowledging that publishers often have a clearer view of market trends and numbers.

What’s Next for the Series?

Fans of the original 2008 action-horror classic may find the news disheartening, especially after the success of last year’s remake by Motive Studios. The remake had many believing EA might have plans to reinvigorate the franchise, but it seems those hopes will have to hibernate a little longer. While Schofield and his team recognize the hurdles, it’s fair to wonder about the potential for Dead Space’s return. For now, it appears we’ve hit a dead end on that front—but as any fan knows, in the world of gaming, you never truly can say never.
