The Crossover Craze in Final Fantasy 14

Final Fantasy 14 has always been a game that embraces the whimsical joy of crossovers. From the enchanting realms of Dragon Quest to the diverse universe of Yo-kai Watch, the game has no shortage of incredible collaborations. My personal favorite has to be the Nier: Automata raids from Shadowbringers. The exhilarating sight of a horde of androids dive-bombing unsuspecting dwarves is a memory I cherish. It’s like biting into a spicy hot wing—surprising, intense, and oh-so-enjoyable!

Masaki Nakagawa’s Dream

In a recent interview with GamesRadar, Final Fantasy 14’s battle design lead, Masaki Nakagawa, opened up about his dream crossover—League of Legends. As a long-time player, Nakagawa couldn’t hide his enthusiasm: “I personally love League of Legends and have been playing the game for a long time, so a crossover with them would be a dream come true.” Just imagine the epic possibilities!

What Would the Crossover Look Like?

You might wonder if a crossover storyline would lean into the recent popularity of Arcane. Perhaps a showdown with Jinx or a romantic duel with Vi could be on the table? The possibilities are endless! However, Nakagawa hinted that the gameplay would not focus on these champions in a typical narrative-driven way. Instead, it could take a surprisingly unique approach that still keeps players on their toes.

The world of Final Fantasy 14 continues to thrive on creativity and bold ideas—who knows what the future holds? For now, we can only dream and hope for this thrilling crossover to materialize. After all, isn’t dreaming what gaming is all about?
