Release Date Announcement
After nearly a year of anticipation, the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 finally has a confirmed release date. It will not be launching as a surprise during Gamescom, as speculated from a recent Nvidia driver update. Instead, it is set to be released on September 17. In addition, a demo is currently available, offering players an early glimpse into the game.
Available Editions and Pre-Purchase Bonuses
The PC release of Final Fantasy 16 comes in two editions: the standard release and the “Complete Edition,” which includes the Rising Tide and Echoes of the Fallen DLCs. As is often the case, pre-purchasing the game will provide some additional perks, such as the Cait Sith’s Charm accessory, the Sixteen Bells orchestrion roll, and the Brave Blade weapon.
Demo Content and Save Data Transfer
The demo, accessible now, features the “opening section” of Final Fantasy 16 as well as an “Eikonic Challenge” mode specifically created for the demo. This mode is designed to highlight the game’s mechanics and combat system through a dungeon quest and boss fight. Notably, save data from the demo will carry over to the full game, with the exception of the Eikonic Challenge segment, ensuring a smooth transition once the game is officially released.
System Requirements
Square Enix has also disclosed the system requirements for the game. For the minimum setup, players will need a Windows® 10 / 11 64-bit OS, AMD Ryzen 5 1600 or Intel Core i5-8400 processor, 16GB RAM, and AMD Radeon RX 5700, Intel Arc A580, or Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. DirectX Version 12 and 170GB of available storage are also required, with an SSD necessary for optimal performance. The game is expected to run at 30fps at 720p with these specifications.
Recommended specifications include a more powerful setup with an AMD Ryzen 7 5700x or Intel Core i7-10700 processor, 16GB RAM, and AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT or Nvidia GeForce RTX 2080 graphics card. This configuration is expected to deliver 60fps at 1080p. As with the minimum requirements, DirectX Version 12, 170GB of storage, and an SSD are mandatory.
Multiplatform Strategy
It has been almost a year since the PC version of Final Fantasy 16 was confirmed. Although details have been scarce, Square Enix announced earlier this year their intention to aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy. This approach includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox, and PCs, aiming to reduce the wait time for games traditionally exclusive to Sony platforms. Final Fantasy 16 for PC is available for pre-purchase now on Steam and the Epic Games Store, with demo links accessible through the store pages.
