Introduction to the Remaster
Last year, when Aspyr gifted us the shiny remasters of Tomb Raiders 1-3, it felt like an exhilarating blast from the past—an experience that lovingly polished Core Design’s classic action-adventures. These remasters upped the ante with impressive graphics and revamped controls. But as we turn our attention to the upcoming remaster of Tomb Raiders 4-6, the question on every fan’s lips remains: will these changes make the Angel of Darkness any better?
What’s New for Kurtis Trent?
Aspyr isn’t just providing a fresh coat of paint; they have revealed plans to restore several fan-favorite features that had been cut from Tomb Raider: The Angel of Darkness. One particularly intriguing addition is the restoration of Kurtis Trent’s weapon, the Chirugai. This melee delight resembles a space-age frisbee with blades, akin to the one made famous in the cheesy yet beloved sci-fi film Krull. A total game-changer for those who have long wished for more melee options!
Enhanced Gameplay Mechanics
In addition to resurrecting the Chirugai, Aspyr appears to be enhancing Kurtis Trent’s mobility with a slew of new abilities. He’ll now be able to sprint and shoot corners while in stealth mode. Sure, these enhancements might not be ‘restorations’ in the purest sense, but they are smart tweaks designed to make Kurtis, let’s say, less of a background character. However, does this newfound “immense untapped potential” truly warrant such fanfare? Only time will tell if these changes will elevate the experience of The Angel of Darkness to new heights—or keep it shrouded in the shadows.
