WWE 2K23’s Sudden End
In a move that can only be described as a fatal piledriver to the gaming community, 2K Games has officially pulled the plug on WWE 2K23. Less than two years after its launch, the game’s servers went offline, and it’s been unceremoniously removed from Steam. It seems that the ring’s ropes just weren’t strong enough to hold this one together.
Goodbye to Online Fun
As of January 26, the game will receive its final takedown, and all online functionalities, including those epic online matches and community creations, have been rendered powerless. This closure was forecasted back in September 2024, when 2K dropped the news that WWE 2K23 was entering the proverbial black hole of oblivion. Players had already been left without the ability to purchase the game or its virtual currency since November 1, 2024.
What Remains?
While the online arena shuts its doors, there remains a silver lining; the offline modes are still playable for those who already own the game. However, it’s worth noting that player counts have been in the low hundreds since mid-2024. As PC Gamer’s own Rich Stanton expressed, this swiftness in delisting and shutdown is “gobsmacking.” If you dropped your cash on WWE 2K23 just a year ago, this may be a reason to wrestle with some serious frustration.
