Introduction to ‘Dying Light: The Beast’

Techland has officially announced ‘Dying Light: The Beast,’ the next game in the acclaimed Dying Light series. Revealed at Gamescom’s Opening Night Live, this new installment is positioned between the events of ‘Dying Light’ and ‘Dying Light 2: Stay Human.’ One intriguing aspect is the return of Kyle Crane, the hero of the original game, voiced again by Roger Craig Smith. Let’s delve into what makes ‘The Beast’ stand out.

Origins and Development

Initially envisioned as downloadable content (DLC) for ‘Dying Light 2: Stay Human,’ ‘Dying Light: The Beast’ expanded so significantly during development that Techland decided to release it as a standalone game. Set in Castor Woods—a once bustling tourist spot now overrun by zombies—the game offers players a refreshing change from the densely packed urban environments of its predecessors.

Gameplay and Environment

The rural setting of Castor Woods features natural landmarks, small villages, and industrial complexes, providing diverse traversal options. Players can use parkour skills to gain an advantage or hop into an abandoned 4×4 to escape the dangers of the night. This setup calls to mind ‘The Following,’ an expansion for the original ‘Dying Light’ that took players out of the city and into more expansive environments.

New Plot Elements and Features

In ‘Dying Light: The Beast,’ Kyle Crane faces new challenges after being subjected to brutal experimentation on his DNA. These experiments grant him beast-like powers, which he uses to battle zombie hordes. The game supports co-op gameplay for up to four players, allowing for cooperative interactions as each player unleashes their own beast-like abilities.

Availability and Pricing

Techland announced that ‘Dying Light: The Beast’ would be available at no extra cost to owners of the ‘Dying Light 2: Stay Human Ultimate Edition.’ For those who don’t own the Ultimate Edition, pricing and release dates have yet to be announced. Stay tuned for more information about this exciting new chapter in the Dying Light series.
