Renowned Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski has recently completed another entry in his acclaimed Witcher series. Speaking to the French fantasy magazine Chimères, Sapkowski confirmed that, although he has no plans for future narratives, this new book has reached completion. “I have finished the book,” he noted, adding, “it took me maybe two years—something like this.”
The Timeline and Setting
Sapkowski’s Witcher saga, which concluded with ‘The Lady of the Lake’ in 1999, was revived in 2013 with ‘Season of Storms,’ a tale set between the early short stories. Given Sapkowski’s prior statements about not extending the saga beyond its concluded timeline, it is presumed this latest book also fits within the existing timeline. During Warsaw Comic Con in 2018, he remarked, “The story is complete. The saga has been concluded, so if by any chance I write something in the Witcher universe, and I sure have such intention, it would probably be something like a prequel or a sidequel. Not a sequel.”
Publication and Translation
The new Witcher book is slated for publication in Polish by the end of this year. Fans who prefer reading in English will have to wait a bit longer, as the English translation is scheduled for early 2025. This announcement has sparked much anticipation among Witcher enthusiasts who are eager to dive once more into the world of Geralt of Rivia.
The Witcher’s Future
While readers await the book’s release, CD Projekt Red continues to develop ‘The Witcher 4.’ Voice actor Doug Cockle has confirmed he will return to voice Geralt, although the character won’t be the main protagonist this time. This information promises an exciting new direction for the Witcher universe, both in literature and gaming.
