First Impressions of Exodus
Exodus, the latest brainchild of Bioware veteran James Ohlen, has finally pulled back the curtain on its much-anticipated gameplay. Initially revealed during the 2023 Game Awards, my excitement for the title fizzled like a poorly timed space jump. However, a curious twist in the plot emerged when the charismatic Matthew McConaughey began dishing out daily trailers, igniting a flicker of interest in what looks like a scintillating sci-fi adventure.
Gameplay: A Familiar Territory
Today, we got our hands on some actual gameplay footage, and I wish I could say I was all aboard the Exodus hype train. Alas, I find myself grappling with a sense of déjà vu as I witness what appears to be an alternate universe iteration of Mass Effect. With glowing elements that resemble the iconic omni-blade and a rich visual palette reminiscent of Bioware’s old classics, it’s hard not to draw parallels.
What Lies Ahead for Exodus?
To be fair, it’s essential to remember that trailers showcase mere snapshots of vast, intricate worlds designed to drench audiences in hype. Yet, today’s glimpse of Exodus raises questions about its uniqueness. Is this fresh or merely a nostalgic nod? While the trailer has its merits, it certainly echoes Mass Effect enough to warrant stating the obvious—stellar tech and a *stab-glove* just might be too on-the-nose. Only time will tell if Odyssey will carve its own path or if we’re just revisiting the stars we’ve traveled before.
