Introduction to the Mod
Every so often, the algorithm gets it right, and on this occasion, YouTube served up one of the funniest things I’ve seen in a while. Several months ago, Australian comedian Tom Walker embarked on a Grand Theft Auto IV playthrough using a mod called Warp Eleven. This ingenious mod changes the behavior of every vehicle in the game (except Roman’s car) so that they ‘travel at warp speed,’ driving and crashing at ridiculous speeds, with or without a driver. And boy, does this mod deliver!
The Chaos Unfolds
The chaos in the game is immediate and ever-present. Cars, trucks, motorbikes—every vehicle GTA has to offer—are flying around, often literally, with collisions and explosions happening every second. Surviving in this Liberty City is nearly impossible. If Nico stands still, a car will soon smash into that location. If he runs across a seemingly empty road, something will send him flying out of nowhere. Simply getting from point A to point B is a Sisyphean task of constant restarts and annihilation.
Tom Walker’s Take
Tom Walker is a big deal in the Australian comedy world and often streams games. As a big GTA enthusiast, he has the kind of mindset that can tolerate the madness unfolding in Liberty City filled with endless vehicles smashing around at warp speeds. The constant crashes, bangs, and comedy ragdoll deaths remain amusing, but at times you’ll see simply remarkable things: for instance, vehicles hitting such angles that they form a massive flock zooming through the air.
Unexpected Beauty
Beyond the laughs, the Warp Eleven mod offers scenes of unexpected beauty. For example, Walker observes traffic taking off like flocks of birds or various vehicles suspended in mid-air, creating a tableau of burned-out dreamcatchers. At times, he even overlays serene music from games like Death Stranding to elevate these chaotic scenes into a form of artistry.
The Warp Eleven mod is inspired by an older GTA mod called Carmageddon, which adds an extra layer of nostalgic fun for long-time gamers. Watching Walker navigate this mayhem is not only hilarious but also oddly captivating. If you haven’t seen it yet, this is one YouTube recommendation you don’t want to miss.
