Marvel Rivals: The Unending DPS Dilemma

The Heroes We Love

In the vibrant world of Marvel Rivals, players enthusiastically flood into matches with a singular focus: damage per second—or DPS, for the uninitiated. Imagine rolling up to a game prepared for a classic blend of roles, only to find yourself surrounded by the likes of Hawkeye, Black Widow, and Psylocke. Spoiler alert: you are not going to win this one. Every hero shooter and MOBA has encountered this prodigious problem—an overwhelming number of DPS characters overshadowing the essential tanks and healers required for balance.

The Call for Change

As players experience the chaotic frenzy of being mowed down by a team of glass cannons, calls for a role-based queue echo throughout the gaming community. The proposal is simple: impose a structure where players must choose between vanguard, strategist, or duelist before entering a match. It’s an idea that strikes many as the golden ticket to achieving harmony among team compositions. Naturally, those DPS aficionados might face longer queue times, but that would be a small price to pay for balanced and momentous matches, right?

The Devs Have Spoken

Unfortunately for balance enthusiasts, the developers at Marvel Rivals have thrown cold water on this concept. In a recent interview with Dot Esports, creative director Guangyun Chen firmly stated, “Right now, we’re not considering a role queue.” Instead, their focus is on cultivating variety through team-up skills and unique designs. Sure, let’s enjoy playing our beloved heroes without the constraints of roles—but at what cost? While the balance might remain a dream, let’s cling to the hope of engaging gameplay amidst the chaos.
