Introduction to Transmission 3.00
This week, developers of the open-source cross-platform BitTorrent client Transmission have released Transmission 3.00. The new major version of the program introduces several new features and improvements, as well as fixes for various issues.
New Features and Improvements
Transmission 3.00 comes with a range of enhancements. Notable changes include support for TCP_FASTOPEN to potentially speed up connections, RPC server IPv6 support, and a temporary session ID to better differentiate between local and remote sessions. Additionally, there is improved HiDPI support for the QT client.
Windows users will notice the upgraded version picks up all existing torrents and settings after installation. The idle seed limit range has been set to a maximum of four weeks by default in all clients. There are also improved completion scripts execution and error handling, along with added support for .bat and .cmd scripts that can be executed automatically after file downloads.
Additional Enhancements
Other enhancements include queue up and down hotkeys support for Windows and Linux clients. The QT client sees reduced memory usage for torrent properties and updated translations for several languages, including Danish, Slovenian, and Norwegian. On Windows, CA certs are now loaded from the system store to resolve issues with connecting to HTTPS trackers.
Bug Fixes and Availability
Transmission 3.00 addresses several issues in clients and tools. The progress sorting option has been fixed on Windows, and a torrent dropping bug has been resolved. All clients benefit from updated library files, multiple memory leak fixes, and other improvements. The new version is available on the project’s GitHub page; users should select the appropriate file, such as transmission-3.00-x64.msi for 64-bit Windows, to download the package.
