HMD Global, the Finnish company behind the Nokia phones, appears to be working on multiple new devices. While details are sparse, several expected launches are causing a buzz in the tech community. The company is gearing up for the release of its uniquely pink clamshell feature phone, the HMD Barbie, alongside a series of mid-range smartphones.
HMD Hyper and New Lumia-Like Phone
Among the anticipated releases is the HMD Hyper, a mid-range handset that adopts numerous design elements from the iconic Lumia lineup. Adding to the excitement, recent leaks suggest HMD has another Lumia-inspired device in the works. While this new device remains unnamed, leaked images show it in olive and violet hues. The design closely resembles the HMD Hyper, with notable differences in camera configuration. Unlike the HMD Hyper which has its LED flash in the upper right corner, the unnamed phone’s LED flash sits in the middle right side of the camera island.
Design and Display Speculations
Despite the rear images, no information on the phone’s front display is available. This makes it difficult to ascertain if it will feature a punch-hole display similar to the HMD Hyper. From what can be seen, it is evident that HMD has a coherent design strategy, though some critics point out a lack of diversity.
Strategic Design Similarities
It seems that the HMD Skyline serves as the foundational design for many of the company’s upcoming devices. This unification in design is not uncommon in the smartphone industry, as companies often streamline designs for branding coherence. Whether HMD’s strategy to evoke Lumia nostalgia will work remains to be seen, but the wait won’t be long as many of these phones are likely to debut at IFA 2024.
As more information becomes available, it will be interesting to see how these new handsets stack up in the crowded smartphone market.
