An Honor and a Challenge

Erika Ishii, one of the voice actors for the protagonist Rook in the highly anticipated game Dragon Age: The Veilguard, has shared her thoughts on the unique opportunity. Ishii described the role as both an “honor and a challenge” and revealed her mixed feelings of being “terrified and thrilled” to take it on. As a long-time fan of the Dragon Age series, Ishii has been working on The Veilguard for over four years.

“I am both terrified and thrilled to have the Dragon Age community hear me in Thedas,” Ishii stated on the social media platform X. She noted, “As a fan of the series, being even a small part of the game is an honor but a challenge, and I did my best to make a game that I would like to play.”

Diverse Cast and Character Options

In Dragon Age: The Veilguard, the main character Rook offers various voice options. Erika Ishii and Jeff Berg provide American-accented voices for Rook, while Bryony Corrigan and Alex Jordan offer British-accented alternatives. Jordan, notably, is recognized for his work on Baldur’s Gate 3.

Ishii has previously lent her voice to characters like Valkyrie in Apex Legends and Ana Bray in Destiny 2, as well as participating in streaming shows such as Dimension 20 and Dropout’s Game Changer. Her extensive expertise and passion for the series make her an exciting addition to the Dragon Age franchise.

Inclusive Gameplay Experience

Erika Ishii expressed particular excitement about the diverse character options within Dragon Age: The Veilguard. “Additionally, as someone who identifies as gender fluid, it means the world to me to have the option to play as a trans or non-binary main character in a Dragon Age game. I can look the way that I want and I can speak with my voice in a world that sees me for who I am,” Ishii remarked.

The enormous scope of the game became apparent when BioWare disclosed that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will feature approximately 140,000 lines of dialogue, 60,000 of which are attributed solely to the four voice actors portraying Rook.

With such a vast and inclusive gaming experience, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is shaping up to be a significant addition to the beloved series, eagerly awaited by fans and newcomers alike.
