Elden Ring’s Map: The Horse Math That Went Wrong

The Mysterious Origins of 79 km²

If you’ve ever googled the size of Elden Ring’s map, you might have stumbled upon the figure of 79 km². This number, repeated across numerous sites, traces back to a Reddit post by user Lusty-Batch, who humorously claimed his calculations were fueled by an edible. While we can all appreciate a little creativity, it seems we collectively bit into a sour apple of misinformation.

Addypalooza’s Rigorous Geography

Fortunately, the problem of inflated maps wasn’t left unresolved. YouTuber Addypalooza dove into this conundrum with a more precise measurement approach. Lusty-Batch’s 79 km² figure encompasses the entire Elden Ring map, much of which is filled with water—water that players don’t traverse (unless you’re confused about swimming). New measurements aimed for navigable areas, giving a clearer picture of what players can actually explore.

A Playable Area: Not Just Water Under the Bridge

To establish a more realistic map size, Addypalooza measured the in-game bridge leading to the Divine Tower of Limgrave, providing a “yardstick” for the entire map. After analyzing player-accessible regions, he concluded that Elden Ring’s playable area stands at approximately 13.48 km². This is significantly smaller than the original edible-derived estimation. Further, if you think about it, this figure excludes many caves and interiors, which Addypalooza estimates as mere rounding errors. So next time you’re roaming the Lands Between, remember—it’s rather cozy in size, just like your friendly neighborhood parking space after a late-night adventure.
