A Long-Awaited Feature for Console Gamers

In a significant win for console players tired of the notorious cheating issues in Call of Duty, Activision is finally introducing the ability to disable crossplay in regular unranked matches. Set to debut with Black Ops 6 season 3 starting April 2, this feature has been a long-requested upgrade since crossplay became a staple in the franchise with the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot.

How Will the New Crossplay Options Work?

As per the new settings, players will have three options for crossplay when diving into multiplayer modes: the default on option, which allows matchmaking across all platforms; on (consoles only), limiting matches to fellow console users; and off, strictly confining gameplay to users on the same platform. Although Activision has hinted that choosing the consoles-only setting may negatively impact queue times, the allure of a less cheat-ridden experience is likely to win over many.

The Cheating Dilemma: Will It Impact Gameplay?

Cheating has plagued Call of Duty, especially among PC players, raising concerns over fair competition. While Activision acknowledges that the majority of reports originate from consoles, the perception remains that many would prefer a more level playing field. As Reddit users have commented, some console players may opt for the “get me out of the PC player pool” approach to avoid the risks posed by cheaters. Yet, it’s noteworthy that this could also inadvertently draw more competitive players into the matchmaking pool, potentially affecting everyone’s experience.

In summary, while the new crossplay settings are designed to enhance gameplay for console users, they’ll likely invoke debate and diverse opinions within the community. Activision’s move has opened the door to new possibilities, and it will be interesting to see how it plays out in the competitive gaming landscape.
