Introduction to Mortis Trials

Fatshark has recently expanded Darktide’s gameplay offerings with the introduction of Mortis Trials, which promise chaotic fun accessible even to new players. Set to become available from trust level 13, these trials invite players to engage in intense combat against visions of heretics, all while navigating through 12 waves of escalating challenges.

Gameplay Mechanics and Challenges

In Mortis Trials, most waves will require players to dive into their normal combating routines, taking down agents of chaos. However, every third wave introduces an ‘objective’ challenge where players must complete specific tasks to receive supplies and buffs. This ‘kill, restock, repeat’ approach rings reminiscent of the thrilling gameplay found in titles like Killing Floor, but Mortis Trials adds an intriguing twist with its roguelike-inspired buffs that enhance build crafting.

Indulgences and Strategy

The unique ‘indulgences’ feature provides players with specialization options that enrich gameplay. Options include pyrokinetic, voltaic, fulminator, death dealer, and colossus, each focusing on different combat styles. As players progress through the trials, they can stack multiple buffs according to their chosen indulgence, paving the way for some exciting theorycrafting. Furthermore, the storyline surrounding Sefoni, a mysterious psyker, adds a deep lore element to the gameplay experience.

Mark your calendars for March 25, as Mortis Trials promises to deliver a gripping and chaotic addition to Darktide. With Fatshark’s continuous improvements, it is shaping up to be one of the most engaging entries in the Warhammer 40,000 series.
