“God Save Birmingham” is the latest survival crafting game concept announced by Ocean Drive Studio, captivating audiences with its unique blend of historical authenticity and physics-driven mechanics. The game recently made waves at Gamescom with the drop of a short alpha trailer and its Steam page launch, promising an exciting and immersive experience set in a medieval market town.

Game Mechanics and Physics-Driven Interactions

One of the most intriguing aspects of “God Save Birmingham” is its commitment to physics-based gameplay. Players will navigate the muddy roads and fields of 14th century Birmingham, evading zombies with a pitchfork in hand. The protagonist’s movements are highly realistic, stumbling and sliding as they traverse the environment. Zombies, too, contribute to the game’s slapstick humor, often tripping over obstacles such as benches, adding a layer of unpredictability and fun.

Historical Authenticity and Realism

For history enthusiasts and gamers alike, the game’s meticulously recreated medieval setting is a major draw. Players can explore a painstakingly reconstructed 14th-century Birmingham, complete with its characteristic markets and burgage plots. The game encourages foraging for resources, raiding smithies for tools, and visiting historic landmarks like the Church of St. Martin in the Bull Ring. This dedication to realism allows players to immerse themselves fully in the bucolic, bubonic world of medieval England.

Development Journey and Future Prospects

Despite only being in development for five months, with the first four months involving just two developers, Ocean Drive Studio has made significant progress. They now boast a team of six and are optimistic about accelerating the game’s development. While the game does not yet have a release date, its Steam page will keep eager fans updated on any upcoming milestones.

“God Save Birmingham” promises a unique blend of survival crafting and historical exploration, with its physics-based mechanics setting it apart from other games in the genre. Players can look forward to an engaging and realistic medieval experience, navigating the challenges of a zombie-infested market town.
