After just two weeks since its much-anticipated launch, the multiplayer extraction survival horror game, Level Zero: Extraction, has officially reached the end of its development. The game’s community manager, known as Antishyr, delivered this news through a heartfelt message posted on Steam, indicating that the game has underperformed in terms of expectations.

Challenges Faced by the Developer

In the statement, it was clear that the relatively small teams at Doghowl and Tinybuild encountered significant challenges in sustaining the game from a financial perspective. Antishyr mentioned, “It’s no longer feasible for our relatively small teams to sustain the game.” This reflects the hurdles indie developers face in a competitive market where player engagement and financial viability often dictate a game’s future.

A Unique Blend of Genres

Despite its short lifespan, Level Zero: Extraction was an ambitious debut from Doghowl. The game aimed to harmonize elements from both the extraction shooter and asymmetrical horror genres. As Antishyr remarked, while they were thrilled to experiment with this unique combination, they learned that blending these elements is not an easy feat.
