Revisiting a Classic: Warhammer’s Origins

It’s an exciting time for tabletop gamers as we witness the return of Warhammer’s original setting in the form of Warhammer: The Old World. Following the successful completion of Total War: Warhammer 3, the anticipation surrounding the Army of Cathay has grown immensely. This revelation brings back fond memories of epic battles and strategic gameplay that defined the Warhammer experience for many enthusiasts.

Cathay’s Entrance: A Teased Future in Miniatures

Initially, the announcement of Cathay and Kislev’s introduction to the tabletop world was met with a hint of disappointment regarding their miniature availability. However, earlier this year, it was hinted that the Army of Cathay would indeed make its way to our tabletops. This promise has now been confirmed with stunning miniatures revealed at this year’s Adepticon event, showcasing the hard work in collaboration between Creative Assembly and Games Workshop.

Stunning Miniatures and Unique Gameplay Elements

These upcoming miniatures capture the essence of Total War: Warhammer 3‘s aesthetic beautifully. Notable units include the menacing dragon-shaped artillery pieces and the various forms of the legendary lord Miao Ying. The array of troops, comprising Jade Warriors and Jade Lancers, promises a diverse and exciting gameplay experience. Moreover, the introduction of the sky lantern hot-air balloon adds a whimsical yet tactical element to the Army of Cathay.

Moreover, alongside Cathay, other new armies like the Beastmen and Wood Elves promise to enrich the old world experience. For established players like myself, the pull to expand our collections is stronger than ever. Despite recent expenditures on other sets, the allure of adding a few Cathayans to my arsenal is simply irresistible.
