A Sizzling Situation

Google’s Fitbit is stepping into the limelight with news that could spark interest among users of the Fitbit Sense and Versa 3 devices. The wearable tech company has announced a $50 credit program for customers who have been affected by a battery overheating issue. If you own one of these devices, you may just find yourself with some unexpected pocket change.

Updating for Stability

Fitbit has acknowledged that certain devices in their lineup are at risk for battery overheating. To remedy this, they are rolling out an update designed to reduce not only the risk of overheating but also battery capacity. This update will begin rolling out to affected customers starting January 21, 2025, and will take place over the following weeks. Fitbit assures us that not all Sense and Versa 3 devices are affected—phew!

Your Next Steps

Worried your Fitbit might be on the naughty list? If you’re unsure whether your device is impacted, you can submit a request to find out. Just keep in mind that the wait for this process could stretch up to a week. In the meantime, frequent syncers of the Fitbit app will receive notifications on both their device and via email if they’re eligible for the update.

While this firmware update promises improved battery stability, there’s a catch: you might be granted less time between charges. Expect to charge your Fitbit more frequently as it adjusts to the new safety measures. The burning question remains, will the new update spark joy or agony when it comes to your charging routine? Only time will tell!
