Roll7: From Skateboarding Dreams to Digital Ghost Towns
Ah, Roll7. The studio that brought us the gnarly, side-scrolling exhilaration of OlliOlli and its sequel, OlliOlli 2: Welcome to Olliwood. We loved shredding through skate parks, making gravity-defying stunts look like child’s play. But alas, like a skater wiping out on a vert ramp, it seems Roll7 has hit a hard reality check. Following the sale of Take-Two’s Private Division label, two of its stylish gems, OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome, have now been delisted from Steam. Talk about an extreme bummer!
What Happened to OlliOlli World and Rollerdrome?
Now, before you start crying over your controller, let’s clarify—this delisting isn’t a reflection of the gameplay quality. Reviews were flying high, with Natalie Clayton labeling OlliOlli World as “a wonderfully surreal adventure time-esque skatopia.” And who could forget Sam Greer raving about Rollerdrome, heralding it as possibly the best action game since Devil Daggers? It seems Player 1 just got a little less fun.
Will We Ever See Them Again?
As we contemplate the fate of these two stylish skate games, it leaves us to wonder: Are they lost to the digital abyss forever, or is there hope for a future re-release? Meanwhile, the original OlliOlli games are riding solo on Steam, and strangely enough, Kerbal Space Program 2 just keeps on orbiting. Could it be that the new owners of Private Division still have dreams of supporting our beloved skate games? One can only hope. Until then, grab your virtual skateboard and keep shredding, my friends!
